How do I keep my pup on strict bed rest?!

Been away for a week and and a friend looked after our 8 month old puppy. He said she suddenly started limping on Sunday - nothing had happened, just started. When we saw her yesterday evening she was not her normal slef at all. So we took her to the vets ..... £400 later we have some anti-inflammatories!

The vet was very concerned as she wouldn't weight bear at all. She suggested x-rays which were all fine. She has also had a blood test for lyme disease as she had had the most enormous tick on her, which she had fiddled with and burst (yuk). Friend had got all of the tick out - said it was huge. The area around where the tick was is really angry so also have cream for that.

To get to the point - have been told to keep her on bed rest until we go back on Monday. Only allowed out for toilet. She's happier to walk on it now as had the anti-inflammatories, so it's harder to keep her still. We have a crate, but I can't shut her in there all the time. What do I do?

just try your best, my pup broke his knee when he was three and half months and was on house arrest for 9 weeks. We tried to keep the wriggly worm still but it was near on impossible, he had to go a couple of times to have fluid drained off, and the vet said that was because of too much movemnt. He spent most of the day asleep in his crate or curled up on us asleep.

The vets were very understanding about it and admitted they didn't hold out much hope for him being still! after he had it pinned and wired they kept him in for a couple of nights for that very reason.

9 weeks! I was thinking 4 days was bad enough.

She has those "feel sorry for me" eyes and they've gone into overdrive now!

Poor wee darling. Can you delegate a member of the household to cuddle duty as much as possible?

trust me they will get worse before they get better. and by the end end of it she will have mastered them to perfection and use them for the rest of her life, my lad certainly does and he isn't 2 yet.

9 weeks was a very long time, seemed like an eternity at the time, but i'm sure he felt worse more so i think because of his age, he missed out on so much growing and now doesn't know what he is, for instance i have NEVER heard him bark, and he just doesn't get other dogs body language, if one growls or snarls at him he thinks its a game and starts wagging his tail and play bowing at them! He is one screwed up puppy .,

Cage rest is the best place for her, unless being cuddled, or using the lead in the garden for her to go to the toilet but stop her running about. You may feel mean but the vet has given you instructions for a good reason and it will be best to follow them. Hopefully she will be better soon and able to run about fine once again.

Survived a day. To be honest she doesn't want to move much anyway. Have to carry her down the steps to the garden - I need more muscles as she's 18kg.

Still doesn't put any weight on her leg - she's loving the cuddles!!

18kg pah, i wish mine lad is topping the scales at just over 40! and i have had to lift him over styles etc at times, cheaper than the gym though

In all serioussiness i am glad she is doing ok but she must be pretty uncomfortable (or just loving all the extra attention ) for her not to want to walk on it. Hope she recovers soon.

Vet rang today and was surprised she is still not putting any weight on it. She muttered about a scan next week.

She's really not herself, poor thing.
