Ticks on cat - how to get rid of them?

I think one of our cats has ticks - three little bloody-looking lumps on her spine...

can you get them out at home or job for vet? thanks

Don't just pull them off- the mouth parts will be left behind.

You can get a tick remover thing but personally I think I'd get the vet to do it.

You can remove them but burning them off with a lighter [scary fact learnt in the jungle when I found a tick on my leg arrrgghhh] but probably not a good trick to try on the cat

you can buy these from your vets or online. They are very easy to use and not very expensive to buy.

I used Frontline when my cat had ticks. It got rid of them all. HTH

frontline, tick tweezers or vaseline (smothering the tick in vaseline suffocates it as it breahtes through its body).

Well, we removed one, were rubbish at it, a bit got left behind, the cat developed an abcess and had to have surgery to remove it. So if it ever happens again, I'm down to the vets to let them do it...

Vets, and buy Stronghold whilst there to stop ticks being acquired again. It's much better than Frontline imo

I would second Medusa's suggestion. You can buy it (little plastic gadget) for a couple of quid from petfood stores & it's dead simple to use. I used ours last week, and as long as you can get the cat to stay stil it's over in a couple of seconds. No need to go to the vet.

Are you sure they are ticks? Ticks aren't really little bloody looking lumps- as soon as they are scoffing away they are really revolting large greyish creatures with black mothparts that are attatched to the animal.They are a bit like a squashy pine nut.They have little wiggly legs at the mouth end. Uggh they really are 'orrible.Maybe your cat just has flea bite scabs?

I think you can coat them in washing up liquid, they suffocate and fall off... presumably can't hurt even if it doesn't work?

Dont put washing up liquid on the cat...it will lick itself clean and that would not be a good scenario - nevermind the potential to ingest some poison or another. Depends what is in the liquid of course, but cats are incredibly sensitive to some things so please don't risk it.

Oh, oops, sorry, I'm sure that's what my dad used to do... but you sound very right.
