Male or Female puppy?

I know this has been done before but.....we are thinking of getting a pup later in the year (once holiday over) kids very excited and DH ok although has never had a dog before.

I have had dogs over the years and have always had boys, but after talking to people at work and lurking on here i'm confused

Obviously not a huge fan of the lipstick thingy but also have no idea about doggy girly bits??

Can anyone give me an honest pro and cons type list about what to expect from the different sexes, thanks x

We have had two dogs and a bitch. The dogs have both been anyone's friend, and very straightforward. Boots, my bitch before I got married was very complex and always fell in love with my boyfriends ( with one exception, and he was a rat) and used to flirt and preen for them, in particular doing a silly trick of fetching vegetables from the kitchen, throwing them about and chasing them and then eating them conspicuously (especially potatoes) to show off. She also had to be top bitch in any company and used to fight any challengers - I loved her to pieces and was really upset when she died aged 17, but she was not as easy going as a boy.
