how much would my cat have to drink to be drinking excessively?

my cat has a normal round cat bowl that holds 1/4 pint worth of water. my cat drinks at least this per day. is that about right? or is that a lot?

she is a smelly skinny scrawny thing and ive been trying different foods to stop her being smelly none have worked so far but she does eat a lot of biscuits (doesn't eat wet food, only licks it!)

tryin to work out if there is anything wrong with her

I think 'normal' varies from animal to animal. One of my cats drinks loads - every time he passes the bowl he takes a gulp, but I very rarely see the other cats drink at all.

I did ask the vet to check out the 'thirsty' cat, but as he hadn't suddenly started drinking a lot (he has always done this)they said it wasn't a problem.

50ml per kg body weight per day is normal, over 100ml per kg per day is considered excessive. Between that may or not be a problem.
It does sound however that she should be seen by a vet if you feel she is smelly and scrawny as it does suggest something is not right.

yeah think i should take her to vets just to get her checked. ive been trying her on different brands of complete dry foods but there have been no difference in her smelliness. im now trying Iams but the portions are just so tiny and rediculous!! (ive got another thread about that)

so ive been giving her extras of the iams but not too much in case she ends up getting TOO much vitamins and gets ill from that! so dont know what to do really
