BSH hobby breeding....

is it more trouble than it is worth?

i am buying a beautiful little blue-cream female kitten from a very nice lady. The dad of kitten is GCCF reg, the mum isn't but both of her parents are making my little one - Dolly Rainbow - a pure BSH kitten. I have emailed the GCCF to ask if i can get Dolly registered, with the support of the lady that i bought from who is interested in retrospectively getting the mum registered. I would really like to get into hobby breeding of BSH as i think they are just adorable but after reading some stuff on the internet about breeding it seems very much like a closed club and i'm a bit confused by it all. I haven't heard anything back yet.

I was thinking that i would get Dolly registered, cover her in kisses and cuddles for a year or so, find an active reg stud for her to mate with, have kittens, love/care for kittens for 13wks then sell them......is it really so much more complicated than that?

any thoughts much appreciated?

aw how lovely! we used to breed Maine Coon cats when I was a teenager (well, mum did!) and although it wasnt' quite as straight forward as all that, it was still a lovely and happy time.
It is quite hard when they have to go and when kittens die but I remember a lot of laughs and happiness too.

do you have a stud nearby? it is hard work making sure your girl and her boyfriend get it together at the right time. we used to trek from london to birmingham and it wasn't always successful but you still have to pay.

some of the cat clubs are quite cliquey too and its hard to break into the circuit - often they won't sell a queen for breeding.

good luck though!
