Guinea pig with runny poo - help please

We got dd two guinea pigs for her birthday last Thursday and they have been fine. Today, one of them has had firstly, soft poo and now it's quite runny. She's still eating and drinking and seems happy.

I know that this can be quite serious for gp's but haven't had them as pets before. They are approx 8 weeks old.

Is it normal for younger gp's to have soft/runny poo until they settle into their new home she says hopefully?

Have they had a lot of greens? Are you feeding them hay?

listenglisten · 17/05/2009 20:16

They have had no greens yet, only pellets and hay.

I just been out to give new food, water etc.

There were a couple of 'soggy' pellets of poo and then also some very watery poo.

I'm a bit worried.

There are lots of ordniary poo pellets as well, I guess from the other guinea.

Is a trip to the vet needed tomorrow?

Not a GP expert sorry, but I think you are right to have her checked. Let us know how you get on.

There are some GP gurus but not one when you need one!

thanks Bella,

I know, hopefully someone might be around soon.

We only got the gp Thursday. I feel really nervous that she might get worse before the vet appointment.

How did you get on at the vets?

listenglisten · 18/05/2009 22:07

The guinea was hospitalised as quite dehydrated. That was this morning and when I spoke to the vet tonight, she had been doing well and eating and drinking.

Oh good - well done you for getting her to the vets so promptly.

Hope she makes a quick recovery
