how to keep dog off sofa

my dog is crate trained and when he gets fed up lying in his crate he usually sprawls out on the living room mat. but when my back is turned he jumps up on the sofa and makes himself really comfy, now i always make him get down and he gets rewards when hes lying nicely on the mat or in the crate but he still goes on the sofa when he gets the chance. i thought he would have gotten the idea that the floor or crate is for dogs and the sofas for people but he just doesnt seem to get it. what can i do. im back and forth like a yoyo trying to keep him off it.

'twas just a joke, Blondie.

Although maybe get him to cut back on those bacon double cheeseburgers, yeah?

raw organic pork that he stole

lol - how on earth do you manage to eat around him? Mine is nightmare enough now he can counter surf but I am guessing yours would not even need to raise his paws

We had this problem ,now we have two sofas and so dont have to share ,obviousley visitors do . Have to say though i dont mind the dog on the sofa ,aslong as he gets straight off when told to by every member of the family big and small ,which he does .

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/05/2009 23:33

yep no paws raised

never leave food about as he will guzzle

but when we/kids eat he always go on his bed

he knows

Sigh, you are lucky, getting mine to stay out from under that table is fight enough at the moment! He is just starting to realise that, when I make him lie down, I will keep putting him back. Now he trys to belly crawl under the table so I won't notice

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/05/2009 13:17

bless him

its all in the training - woffa KNOWS he isnt allowed near the table at meal times-he can go into his bed/crate/living room matress etc

but can hoover up the droppings afterwards

Lol, my pup knows he is not allowed to - he just thinks his wish is more important than my will

Don't worry though, he will get the hang of it soon enough, I will not get bored before he does!
