The curse of their little buddies - Frontline or Program - which one would you choose?

Last summer we tried Program, and after a manic start to the flea season (before we dished out the program) it seemed to calm things down.

This summer I'm considering trying Frontline Spot-on. Does it work though? I think many years ago I tried one of the rubbish (Bob something) brands and that was useless, so I'm not convinced by spot-on products. Frontline is supposed to be good though isn't it

Oh, and whilst I'm here, on some websites it says the frontline should be reapplied every 2 months, on some, every month. Which is correct?

Oh, and just another question . Which of them works quickest - I caught 10 fleas tonight from one dog!

Frontline is very good, thats what i use for my cats and dog

We use frontline too

I use frontline but here in Spain, the fleas seem to have developed an immunity to it.

Bob Martin is useless I found. Frontline all the way! It has only recently become available from places other than a vet's.

We're awkward. We use Advantage.

Frontline Combo is what you want. It's a spot on so no tablets, it's extremely effective, and is breaks the lifecycle by not only killing adult fleas but inhibiting the development of eggs and larvae. So if your dogs already have fleas I would use that one, plus an insecticidal spray for the home like Indorex or Acclaim.

FairMidden · 01/05/2009 23:47

I should say that Frontline COmbo is a prescription drug so you'll need to see your vet about that one, but it is IMO the optimum flea treatment available just now. Also for control of fleas it only needs to be applied every 8 weeks. Ordinary Frontline is usually applied every 4 weeks or so.

I use Stronghold which is also a prescription drug. I have found it to be very effective and it also treats worms at the same time.

i too use stronghold. It seems to do the job well as I have never had a problem with worms or fleas

It is quite expensive though and you can only get it through your vets

I agree with the advice to go with fronline combo and a household spray.
For information however, program will only stop fleas from breeding, it does not actually kill fleas. If you already have an active flea problem it is not a solution to this. Program if used is best used as a preventative agent alongside other products such as frontline. If however you are using a product such as frontline combo, this already contains a product that stops the flea life cycle being completed as well as something to kill adult fleas on the pet, so program would not be needed at all.
