Just in the last week our old girl has started to lose her fur and has a couple of bald patches - do i need to do anything for her?

Is she itchy? Guinea pigs can get mange and your vet should be able to treat it relatively easy if it is that. Any doubts then it is probably best to get her seen by a vet for peace of mind.

It does sound like mange or mites - the vet can give an injection.

£45 omg!! She seems to have lost some weight but is still eating - she is a fab eater! Will the others get it then, do you think?

Hair loss can be mange or a parasite infestation One of our three gps lost a lot of hair in November - vet treated all of them for mange cost £65. A month later the hair fell out again.

I spoke to Chrissie at Gorgeous Guineas and she said that gps can get mange and a parasite infestation at the same time - quite common.

This time just used gorgeous guineas products and all cleared up but they had already been treated for mange and live indoors.

The problem is that mange and parasite infection can be hard to distinguish even for a vet.

There is a shampoo that you can get to treat it, much cheaper than going to the vets. I had 2 guinea pigs and one was losing some hair. I bathed both of them with the shampoo and it was fine.

Really sorry but I can't remember what it was called.

Thanks so much all- does anyone know what the shampoo is called, she is itchy and rather sore in places. Other 2 seem fine (fingers crossed)
