Is it a young'n?

Ours, now 4 and 1/2, used to dig up all sorts.
Just tell her NO and find her a distraction.

She is 10 months old so still a pup really. If i turn my back on her shes away digging up anything she can!

don't turn your back on her, and give a firm no every time she starts. Not much else you can do except watch her like a hawk.

Have you heard of dog training discs? Basically they are an extension on the shaking keys theory and much more effective. They ar great for using to target a particular behaviour like this and you can control how intense they are so, once they get the idea, you just give a little jingle and they will back off but, if they get all determined and fixated you can throw them on the ground for a more instant effect. Or somewhere in the middle of course!

It does mean you will have to follow her around for a few days and be sure to get the timing right (although with digging it is easier than something very quick). One of the things I like is that it is not you telling the dog off so you do not have to constantly be shouting at your pup!

My immediate response was 'take away its spade'. Sorry.
