Just asking for a my sis, as her cat is ridiculously overweight. He is 10 yrs old, and started getting bigger gradually over the last 4 yrs or so.

She went to the vets with him last yr, and vet just said oh he's just a big cat?

He's like a pouffe cushion!!!!

How fat is he? Generally speaking, over 5kg is quite porky, unless he's got a really big frame.

Buy him a laser pen and get him some exercise, cats get lazy. If the vets checked him then I guess it's not medical.

he's about 13 lb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

she calls him King Kong at the moment. I guess if the vet's not concerned then it must be ok. He only eats about 1/2 -3/4 tin a day. Where she is living hasn't got as much outdoor space as the last place.

Lack of exercise. That's why my cat's overweight. She needs to play with him and encourage him to move, jump and run. Every day.

If he's getting out of the way of exercising himself he'll probably resist this or get bored pretty quickly. Just perservere.

I think this is the main reason cats get fatter as they get older. Same as people really.
