Camping with dogs

We went camping last year several times with 1 dog, he slept in his crate in the porch area at night. I now have 2 dogs, they both have crates which they are used too, but I wonder if they'll be warm enough. I thought they might be better off in the back of the car, where they have more space and can snuggle up together, also less drafts. What do other people do? Mine are fine in the car, I work part time as a countryside ranger and they come to work with me, so are used to spending a couple of hours in the car while I'm in meetings or doing e-mails etc. And before anyone shoots me down in flames, no not when its hot, and they always have exercise first, have water, beds, chew toys, in a private car park and they don't whine at all. Does anyone else put their dogs in the car overnight or always in the tent?

Is there not room for the crates inside your tent?

I would love to take our dog but he is not happy with strangers and I wouldn't be able to relax unless he was on a lead 24/7. If it was our ast dog, I would have him loose inside our tent - probably trying to sleep on top of our feet!

Our dog curls up with me on my sleeping bag. Keeps me nice and warm.

I wouldn't want to put the crates in the main tent because our yongest dog is only 6mths, the other is just 2. I'm sure if dd (3) needs a wee in the night, or me, and he sees us he will cry to be let out of his crate! He's quite loud when he cries! I also want to make sure he is confined somewhere as he is still a chewer, I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to chew or dig his way out of the tent, hopefully he will be better when he grows up and his teeth are all settled, but I wouldn't sleep if he was loose in the tent, and if I put him in the bedroom with us he'd probably sneak under the partition and wake up dd! Hes a terrier and therefore a little terror! He is used to being crated, as he is crated at night and when left at the mo' until he stops chewing. I've just brought another tether hook so they don't have to share and end up plaiting themselves together! I don't think the main area of the tent is any warmer than the porch, the porch has a clipped in ground sheet, but their crates aren't big enough for them to share one, I just wondered if anyone ever put their dogs in the car, then they could snuggle up together as they do most evenings. I guess we can take the crates with plenty of blankets and see how they get on. Hopefully by next season he'll be safe to be out of his crate. Although the crate makes a very good kitchen work top!
