Bad puppy owner - that's me

Pet shop recommended rawhide knotted bone for our pup to chew. She has eaten the knot in about 10 minutes. Just done a google search and lots of people warn against them. I'm now panicking!

She was chewing quite merrily, turned round to make my coffee, looked back and the end had gone. I've now confiscated the rest of the bone. Please tell me your stories of how your pup ate such a chew and was fine! I've just read loads of horror stories about blockages and deaths.

She ignores her nylabone and kong. What else is good for a pup to chew?

Why are they bad?

My puppy has never had them, but she does have pedigree chum puppy chews and puppy marrowbone treats, which she likes.

I am sure your puppy will be fine.

raw bones, bt watch them - sure she will be fine, if she has swallowed a piece of it that isnt too bg, dont worry, if it was thw whole thing she would probably gag.

Was it the white ones or the brown ones?

pigsinmud · 23/03/2009 12:32

It's a beige colour. Ingredients: Cattlehide - yuk!

I ask because the pale chewys get really slippery and slimy so big chucnks can slip down the throat too easily easpecially knots etc.. thats why they are not good.

Do you fill the kong with stuff like meat paste?

The small flat or cigar shape darker colour chews are much safer if you want somthing to last a bit longer than something like the soft chews

Mine love pigs ears too!

pigsinmud · 23/03/2009 12:37

the 8.5 one

They are the darker ones, fine imo but the knots can be swallowed and are a bad shape so cigar shape or flat is better

pigsinmud · 23/03/2009 12:38

It looks all slippery at the end. I suppose looking at that picture it is paler rather than darker. Oh gawd.

I have some paste for the kong, but she licks rather than chews!

Sorry - crossed post! I'll look for the flatter ones next time.

freeze the kong - makes it last a hell of a lot longer (get 2 to rotate them)
