..and as a new dog owner.. PFD.. precious first dog.. I need help.

She was the last 1 of my friends litter, a jack russel.. short haired, long legged.

We have called her pina, and she has taken to my 2 boys already. They were all curled up together on the sofa watching TV when my husband came home to discover her there.

but help... when do I vaccinate, neuter, worm

what else do I need to do thats essential??

Congrats!

Get an appointment at your vet for a (usually free) check over & they will give you all the info. Jabs usually start at 6 - 8 weeks, worming every fortnight until 3 months old, and neutering depends on your vet's preference. Flea treatment too...

How old is she.

You will need to get her first vaccination done right away and then vet will advise you on the second, she shouldn't have any contact with other dogs or (might have changed) go outside of your garden.

Neutering a bitch - 2 different train of thoughts, one is after their first season and the other is before.

Worming we do ours every year.

Worth looking out for puppy socialising classes.

We've got a 14 week old lab so going on our experiences:

Vaccinations at 8, 10, and 16 weeks (only allowed in garden until then).
Worming tablet every month.
Neutering will be done at "maturity" which the vet says is around 6-8 months old (don't know about a bitch).

We are due our last vaccination on 5th April then the big wide world is our oyster!

Looking into training classes but obviously can't start these until vaccinations are complete. Our Vet organises Puppy Parties as a way to start socialisation.

Tbh when we got Zac it had been so long since we had a dog I really didn't have a clue and the vaccination procedures had changed since our last beloved dog past away.

Our Vet has been fab, advising us on brands of food, worming tablets and recommending training classes, kennels if we ever need them. Guess what I'm saying is go find a good vet
