Best book for looking after a puppy?

We're getting a new puppy in a couple of weeks, dead excited, but new to the game. I am being inundated with all sorts of advice ( often conflicting)...bit like being pregnant really, even the midwives tell you utterly opposite stuff.
Anyway, wondered if there's a puppy bible out there?
We're getting a staffy cross, aussie bulldog/ boxer....8 weeks old, girl, very cute. We have Dd 6 and Ds nearly 4...
I'm not a total sook, my baby bible was Baby love by Robin Baker...if there is the puppy equivilant out there I would be most grateful!

The kennel club website has loads of info. here

Also ask your vets for more info. Different breeds have different requirements, so get a book specific to the dog yours shares most charateristics with.

I've linked to this book before and the MNer who bought it came back later to leave a post thanking me for it

It's very, very American but it teaches you how to think like a dog better than any other book I have seen - and if you can understand their motivation then there's no limits to what you can teach them to do (and teach them not to do!). It's also nice and simple and covers most aspects of dog ownership.

Good luck with your puppy

I agree with bella29's suggestion. The Perfect Puppy by Gwen Bailey is an absolute must.

I couldn't have survived my dog's puppyhood without it!

Enjoy!

Ooo...and LittleB has suggested it too.
