Orca (my 10 week old border collie) is having her 2nd jab in a couple of days so we are looking to join a puppy class.

How do I recognise a "good" class?

What should i be looking for?

There is one close to me that sounds lovely and there will be abother bordie collie pup for her to play with but how do i know if it ois the right class for her?

She already socialises with the dogs of friends and family so that side of things isn't an issue but I am worried about her not fitting in (PFB pup!)

tbh at this age it is very much about socialising the pup and allowing them to meet other puppies. I would go for the one you think sounds good and, if you enjoy it, you can then enrol on any follow-on courses (e.g. obedience). These don't normally start until 16 weeks or later.

Don't worry about her fitting in - this is a very important part of her development and she just needs to be out meeting others. Dogs that aren't well socialised at this age can end up with behavioural problems.

Ask other dog owners and vet for recommendations, lucky you to have choice..

i have a list that I got from the vet but they won't/can't recommend one to me.

one that lasts for a good few weeks is good. 12 weeks is the best age to start as they are just old enough to concentrate for long enough

one that does obedience is VERY good - socialisation comes alongside that

one that is not over an hour - 45 mins max as they get tired

One that does on and off lead work during the course is good - you need obediance on and off lead after all

one that goes through stages is good - my mum's dog school has the 10 week pup course, then they can graduate to groups and continue the training
