How can I rehome our cat?

We got our cat from a rescue centre quite a way from where we live about a year ago. We were told she was good with children but in actual fact she has always been very nervous. She has never liked any of them despite them always being gentle and slow with her (they are 5 and 3). She now hisses and spits and swipes her claws if any of the children go near her (even walk past her)and she doesn't like going outside so there is no escape. We have a 6 month old dd so am starting to panic about when she starts toddling. Is there anything we can do or should I start looking for a new home. It is such a shame because in every other way she is a lovely cat and would suit a family with no children or pets perfectly.
