How can I stop my puppy barking when on the lead?

Hoping someone here can help, never had this problem with previous dogs. He is a 19 week old GSD, he is fine when in the house and garden, but has started to bark at people when I walk him. I have been trying to find a training club that runs weekends, but the only one near me runs on an evening which I can't go too. TIA

How do you correct him when he starts barking?

I tell him NO and turn his head away from the person he is barking at and towards me. I do praise him and give him a treat when he walks past someone without barking, but it dosen't seam to be working.

think i saw something similar on one of those dog training programms.

the guy used a water spray, when he took teh dog for a walk he would hold the lead and if he barked he would spray the water at the dogs face. it startled teh dog and distracted him from barking.

seemed to work

I think you're doing the right thing to disagree with his behaviour but personally I wouldn't praise him for not barking.

My second dog had a thing for barking at motorbikes - he was traumatised when he lived on the streets before he was rescued. I correct my dogs with a shh noise instead of a no, but I doubt that is important! Whenever my dog barked at bikes I would give a lead correction - sharp tug sideways. If he continued I would stop, make him sit, say shh and correct with the tug again if neccessary.

Thanks fattiemumma, the thought of using a water spay did come to mind earlier. I must have seen that before somewhere.
I have just found a dog trainer thats not too far from me and can do daytimes and one to one. They are sending me out a pack to look at. Am thinking that might be worth a go.
