i want another pet. have a cat already so what shal i get?

i really would love another cat but i rescued 2 kittens a few months ago and my original cat hated them and in the end had to rehome them as it just wasn't fair on my cat.

but i would still love another pet. what pet would be suitable to have with my cat? he's only just 1 year old so still only a baby himself. i would like a hamster or rat but wouldn't really be able to let them run around the house as the cat would kill them.

would my cat react better to a rescue cat that was a lot older perhaps? or would he be equally hateful!?

How long did you give him to get used to the kitens? Cats can take a while to adjust to another cat.

Maybe just getting 1 around the same age as him?

also would it make a difference that the kittens were girls and he's a boy? would it work out better if i got another boy the same age as him?

I doubt 2 boys would work better than a boy and a girl. I have 2 boys - brothers from the same litter, never parted from each other - and they are still very territorial towards each other and sometimes won't even feed together. 2 male cats together is a big mistake I have discovered. Never again.

ive just volunteered to help at my local cats protection so caring for cats there will hopefully settle my urge for another cat for the moment
