My cat has had an infection in her nail bed for 5 month she has had 4 lots of tablet antibiotics and 2 injection antibiotics but nothing has got rid of it. It is now all smelly and going black and the vet is going to amputate 2 of her toes-ouch x Has anyone elses pet has had this done, will she be able to still go out on it cos she loves it in the garden?

poor cat. mine manages fine with only 3 legs. will be fine once it has healed. is she insured? otherwise how much has it all cost? am still paying off the loan for mine.

Don't worry she will be fine, it is amazing how quickly kitties adapt. I used to be a vet nurse and we had cats have legs and tails amputated before and they managed just fine. Is it painful for her? If it is she will feel much better for having them off.

No she doesnt seem to be in pain but she has been nearly on constant antibiotics and pain relief. Yes thank god she is insured, i have rang up for the form. Our old cat had an absess on her leg and had to have it drained on a bank holiday weekend and it cost us around 600 pound, so learnt by my mistakes and have this cat insured.

Agree with Wigglesworth - we also took a lots of toes off at the practice I worked at and they end up just fine, although it can take a while to heal.
