cat is fine in himself, eating as normal. about and inch long like another cat has batted him with claws out. can't see any other wounds but he doesn't sit still for long!

should i bath it in something or try and see the vet?

If it looks ok atm I'd just keep an eye on it for signs of infection (redness, pus, not healing, or if the cat keeps scratching it), and maybe dab it every so often with tepid salt water. Take him to the vet if it does look angry though as he may need antibiotics. Poor thing!

if cat will allow have a good look and check there is not a puncture wound there from a tooth. Depending on how deep it is I would wash with cooled boiled water and salt for 2-3 days and see how it goes on.
My neutered tom used to get a lot of bites which would heal over, infection inside and then turn into monstrous, very painfull abcesses.
Probably fine.

As FMTD says, cat wounds often close up, and then get infected. If it stays open, and doesn't go wrong, he should be fine.
