MY HAMMY HAS JUST DIED

I love my hammies and i am out babysitting at the moment, and my dh has just called to say that my dear old boy hammy has just died

he hasnt been 100% with a tumour on his ear, but vet said he want bothered by it - tumour been there about 6mths

dh noticed he hadnt been out for his porrdige today (he has a little pot of baby porridge, which they love) and he looked in his little house that he sleeps in

and there he was dead - still warm to the touch

least he passed away peacefully in his sleep

but now im sitting here on my own (apart from kids asleep upstairs) blubbing my eyes out

he may have been little but i loved him dearly

Perhaps Hanky and Indie will now join each other for hamster sport on that great hamster wheel in the sky.

He was a very well loved and pampered hammy though.

Up there stuffing his pouches full of heavenly hammy porridge all day now

eekamoose - yes that was me - sure they are racing about in hamster heaven

i know its silly to get so attached but dh and I do

it was sudden, not that i want our hammies to linger and suffer, but he was fine sunday so completley out of the blue

bella yes we have very pampered pets and there will be a buriel tonight

dh will dig a hole in our garden and we then get a dog tag with his name and dob on it

I know they're only little pets but I sobbed my 25 year old heart out at the Vet's when my first one died many years ago.

I cry copiously at the sad bits in any Vet/animal programme on TV too.

Have a good cry, it's perfectly justified.

part of me feels silly as there are other serious things going on in the world BUT i did love him

he brought great joy - we normally have 2 hammies, and other one TJ (tiny jim) is obv missing him - cages were side by side

we shouldbe be used to it by now as have had 7 hammies and all dies over the years but still its sad [sad}

we will get another one prob this weekend

Aww sorry for your loss, it is hard when a pet passes away no matter how big or small, RIP Hanky, it sounds like he was well loved and looked after right until the end. My DH said to me when our cat died that he could have ended up living somewhere horrid with nasty owners but he lived with us and we cared for him better than anyone could and he had such a happy life. I found this very comforting.

I'm dreading our hamster dying, he is so adorable. DP did not want one to begin with, but now plays with him as much as anyone else including doing the silly voice sorry for your loss.

they all have their own little personalities - admitley Hanky was a lazy sod and slept a lot, but when he came out to play he was so much fun

dh is off work today and said he would have a look at some baby hammies for me

I am so sorry.

Ours had to be put to sleep a few days ago and I cried all over the place.
