Dog breeding - reasons not to breed?

SO, I have come accross a lady who wants to breed her staff. Can anybody tell me facts (or a link?) as to why she shouldn't do it?
I have already said there are hundreds in rescues but her claim to get round that is that rescues won't re-home dogs to families with young children.

direct her to the champ dogs forum. they have a whole section on responsible breeding.

rescues don't rehome to families with very young children for a reason.

Thanks.

Well she claims that they don't rehome older dogs because they don't know their background but will rehome puppies to them but always have a long waiting list.

Northern England Springer Spaniel rescue had a whole litter of puppies handed into them see their letter to the paper www.nessr.net/news/Daily_Mail_Full.jpg not only would that breeder not have made a profit but they would have had to feed the bitch and puppies pay vets fees and stud fees for the dog. Maybe your friend would think twice about breeding if she thought there would be no money in it.

She has a male and wants to stud him.

the world does not need any more staffie pups, I have nothing against the breed personally but our local rescue places are overflowing with them, it's awful

soon2befamilyof4 · 09/02/2009 11:23

I know, thats my point really but its just trying to get her to listen.

You won't be able to talk her out of it. She has staff puppy pound sign/prices in her eyes

Probably thinks she IS being responsible by not breeding them in time for xmas

Sorry to rain on your parade there i know you mean well but this is a money issue. Not a dog lover one. So, you won't win.

Had so many people asking to breed from my dog because of his temperament i might as well have taken out an ad in the paper saying he wasn't for stud..i castrated him instead..the number of people asking has now dropped to zero as word has got round lol.
A very irresponsible lady IMO.

I read an artacle recently that said the number of dogs in rescue centres has gone up in view of the current economic climate.

I wouldn't imagine there are as many people paying £4/5/600 for puppies atm are there?

Its a shame. She seems to think, because he is a pedigree she should be breeding him.

I have a pedigree cat, now I know I could have made loads of money by now if I had bred her, but I got her spayed as soon as she was old enough as money just isn't what they are there for.
