Guinea pig mites?

We have suddenly found lots of little grey coloured mites in our guinea pigs fur. They were not there yesterday as far as we remember. My DH had a bad reaction on his face last night after holding one so we are assuming its that that caused it??

We have shampoos and special ointments for them.

What else do we need to do? I am assuming they came in in the hay (excel timothy hay from PAH).

ARGH.

Anyone? We have washed them and applied the ointment and binned that pack of hay. DH has given their cage and everything in it a good scrub.

Have you been to the vets, or self-diagnosed?
I believe there are different sorts of mites - once, our vet treated mites with injections which cleared them up really quickly. Another time, we had to use the shampoos etc. best to get them checked properly if you haven't already done so.

There are no mites on them today so it either worked, or it was dust on their fur. I have no idea, the white one sits underneath food/hay when its being put in the cage but they did look mitey...

Anyway they have all had a good bath and seem fine, no scratching or sore parts.
