Postpartum psychosis in cat?

We have two sister cats who have recently given birth. Cat 1 has been behaving very oddly about her kittens and abandoned one at birth, who was then adopted by Cat 2. Now Cat 1 is stalking Cat 2's kittens, seemingly in order to eat them. Cat 2, unsurprisingly is freaked out and keeps hiding her kittens in odd places. Any thoughts on this? anyone know how long it might take for Cat 1 to get normal. should she go to the vet?

I have no idea if it's postpartum psychosis or indeed if cats get it! but yes, I think she should go to the vet. Bloody hell. Poor cat 2 and poor kittens!

Separate them completely now - even if it means MadCat1 is stuck in one room for a while. And yes, get to the vets.

Yes, it is all very alarming and awful. Was a horrible moment when thought a kitten had ben consumed and DS1 was in tears. Finally found missing kitten and have separated cats. will take Madcat 1 to vet. Thanks.
