New kitten settling in question.

Well we have just brought home an adorable bundle and she has been in the kitchen for the last 2 hours or so with the children. She is quite keen to come out (in between playing with her toys!) and keeps jumping and hanging on the door! She has already used her litter tray. How long do I have to keep her in the kitchen if she is meowing to come out? She seems quite happy as in she is not hiding or anything.

why keep her in the kitchen? let her out!

We bought 2 kitten for my sister as a surprise for Christmas. As she had already booked a holiday we kept them for a bit and they went on Saturday. I really miss them. Love kittens they are so funny to watch.

She sounds as if she's settling in really well if she's not hiding and has used the tray. I'm sure she could be let out to explore the downstairs, start mapping out her territory a bit.

(Ours have been with us for a couple of months now and are completely at home - on the windowsills, behind the TV, on top of the TV, behind the piano, on top of the piano...)

Aww do you think so? It was just that everything I read on settling in kittens said leave them in one room for a few days! I don't think she would like that at all. She is wearing herself out chasing all her toys though so I hope she is not going to keep us up all night crying in the kitchen (which is where we want her to sleep).

Our two do go to bed really well (amazingly since they are mischievous! They have been sleeping in the spare room ever since we realised they could jump up onto the tops in the kitchen (ew) and although we sometimes hear them thundering around, they are very good. They don't like us to lie in though - the demands to be let out start as soon as they hear our alarm and sometimes before!

Well she is out and exploring! She likes being behind the settee clearly but she is doing a circuit of the downstairs at the moment. She keeps daxhing back to the kitchen for safety and then back out again!

Ah dd1 has just retrieved her from upstairs! She is being very nosy

Ok will take a piccy tomorrow if I can. She has been asleep in her bed for the last 90 mins but has now woken up and is mewing a lot again and wandering around. We have blocked the stairs off and she is unimpressed! I think she may be wondering where the childre, her playmates have gone. Otherwise not sure what she is shouting about.

if she's shwon she knows how to use the tray i'd say she'll be fine... most cats are quite fussy even as kittens and once they've picked a toilet spot will stick to using it so as long as you keep an eye on her for a day or two to be certain i wouldn't worry.

don't wory about the miowing, she might just be a vocal cat... the 2 females we have waiting to go to their new homes are very prone to mewing and squeeking at us about everything... it'll be oddly quiet when they leave!

Well I have got nothing done today . She just wants me sat on the settee so she can pad around me, walk across me, nuzzle against me and then fall asleep on me! If I move she starts crying at me until I come back. I know am being soft but it IS her first full day! Her favourite spot is on the back of the settee with her head peeping over. Absolutely adorable .

Oh apart from the smelly bum bit (have started another thread!)
