I need advice for new guinea pigs

I am buying two guinea pigs for DS's birthday.

He has no idea and will be so happy when he realises as he's wanted some for years.

Anyway, the plan is that I will buy the cage and everything first and then buy the pigs on the Tuesday. I will then take them to my mums house (very quiet house) to allow them to settle in for a few days...DS's birthday is on the Saturday and I will take him to mums house on the saturday to get the pigs. That gives them 3 days to have gotten over the trauma of the move etc.

Does this sound ok?? They will then have to be moved from my mums house to my house in car but I'll keep them in the cage for this.

So apart from the initial plan, what else do I need for when they come home?

Stuff like straw, woodchip etc?

Sounds ok, but tbh they will be traumatised by the car journey from your Mum's too.

You will need -

-Large enough cage
-A hidey house/pigloo/log cabin big enough for the pigs to hide in
-2 food bowls that the pigs can't tip over - 1 for dry food and one for fresh fruit and veh (they need a good amount daily)
-A gravity feed drip water bottle (the ones with the metal tube)
-Something to hold their hay - either a hopper which fits on the side of the cage or a ball which you can stuff with hay.
-Whatever you are going to use on the base of the cage - straw, carefresh bedding, shavings (NOT pine scented), in fact I'm not keen in shavings at all.
-A supply of good quality hay to feed (keeps their teeth down and they love it
-Whatever the piggies are being fed on by the pet shop/breeder (you will supplement that with fresh fruit and veg).

Don't feed them potatoes or onions, they aren't keen on them. Citrus fruits should be limited too.
