Can any of you lovely puppy owners recomend a book. Im getting a newpup in two weeks and there is too much choice. Puppy training for dummies looks good for me at mo.

Also what age should i start him at classes and should i see which book they recomend??

Thank you xx

12 weeks for obedience training.

No books IMPO - go with whatever your dog school say or else it'll clash and confuse you and the animal

this one is the only one I'd recommend. It is American, so some of the language and ideas sound a little odd, but he talks a lot of sense.

I think it is well worth having a book. Some of the dog training and obedience schools talk a lot of nonsense. Always good to be aware of other approaches and opinions when you start classes, imo.

Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson is my recommendation - link

The perfect puppy by Gwen Bailey was my bible during the weeks before and after the arrival of our pup.
Very very useful book

I love the perfect puppy by Gwen Bailey too. My pup has just started his training classes, he's 16weeks. They take them as soon as they are fully vaccinated here. I asked my vets for the contact details of a local trainer. I'd get a book aswell as training classes, as classes are unlikely to start until you've had your puppy for a few weeks, and in the meantime you can start some training and follow the really useful socialisation chart in the puppy book.
