Another guinea pig thread

We'll be getting a couple of guinea pigs in a few weeks. It's our first time so I have no idea what they're like, I've never even held one before.

I'm trying to read up on them as much as possible but some of what is on the net sounds a bit far fetched...I know some of you keen them so:

Is it true that after a while you can open their cage and they'll wander around the living room and return back to the cage on their own accord??

Can you really cuddle and fuss over them for ages without them running off?

Can you really train then to come to you when called?

Yes to all 3 I think.

DS has held gps at our local farm; they sit until he gets bored (a good 15 mins or more sometimes)

I guess it just depends how tame you make them!

Ours will happily sit on a towel in the middle of the living room and won't wander off. Ours live outside but spend a lot of time indoors.

Love sitting on the lap for a cuddly, and will nudge your hand for a stroke if they don't think they are getting enough attention.
