silly, really, just wanted to say my dog has died and I'm so, so sad. He was a beagle, 9 years old, and I was always getting cross with him for bgg*ing off across the fields for hours, spending all night out on Bin night and scavenging whenever my back was turned at home. Then it turns out he has bladder cancer. Running on Camber sands one day, put to sleep a few days later. Must have been in a lot of pain but good old dog, didn't mention it to me . I miss him, the children miss him, and my other dogs keep looking for him. Why, oh why, do we love our dogs so much?

RIP Charlie - give those heavenly foxes hell............

That's not silly. A friend for 9 years - what sort of person would you be to not be sad?

He's comfortable now - once some time has passed you'll be able to remember all the good times with him.

Thanks and sorry for your loss, korma.....just feel guilty that I wasn't always a friend because he was so naughty and I used to get so cross with him....God, I do miss him though

Sorry to hear.

Losing an adored family member is vile, whatever their species. You're not being silly at all.

I'm so sorry we have a nine year old naughty dog and my husband who never wanted one treats him like his only son as we have 3 girls.I know we would all be devastated if he died, even though he's a pain in the derriere, who doesn't like other dogs.Dogs love their owners,so don't feel guilty;just being near you would have made your dog happy.

moosemama · 11/01/2009 00:14

So sorry to hear your sad news.

They are such a part of our families aren't they. I have three dogs one is 11, one is 10 and one is only 2. The oldest has oral cancer that is inoperable and the vets have no idea how long she has. I get fed up of her stinking the house out sometimes with her bad breath and then feel so guilty as I would miss her so much if she wasn't here. We all get cross with our loved ones sometimes.

Be kind to yourself and allow yourself time to grieve and remember the good times.

Kind thoughts to you and your family.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

We feed them
care for them
try to teach them, and are overjoyed when they learn!
We pick up their poo, and love them when no-one else does....

They are like our furry children -
RIP Charlie

Oh poor old Charlie. He sounds like he was a really lovely dog.

Very well put Korma, you bought a tear to my eye.

best wishes to you and your family.

This is a bereavement, of course it is - much love to you and your family. Charlie sounds like a fab dog who had a really good life - running on camber sands, sounds perfick! Its the most terrible thing to lose a dog, i think that it is the most surprising grief if you know what i mean, never quite prepared for it.

RIP charlie

LucyEllensmummy · 11/01/2009 14:22

Don't feel guilty Sal, please don't - you were much more than a friend to Charlie, by sometimes being a firm "pack leader", you were providing him with a safe feeling of being looked after - i totally believe that.

SalVolatile · 11/01/2009 19:08

Thanks everyone - the support makes me feel much better - Lucyellensmum is SO right, it is a 'surprising' grief that catches us out
