What pet would make a good baby substitute for an extremely broody lady?

already have 2 cats and 6 chickens. want a dog but dh says no way.

get a whippet - your dh will never notice that it's not one of the cats - it just curls up in a warm place all day

Ah, my broodiness resulted in me falling in love with two gorgeous curly-whiskered baby guinea pigs. I pretended they were for dd but they were really because I needed something to cuddle.

If you can persuade him - black labradors or lab crosses. they are such loving and gentle dogs. They do need lots of exercise and full of mischief as pups but have such a great temperment.
