DD is 11months old and we currently have a 15 week old kitten in the house on foster and they get on fine.. He puts up with LOADS and is very good with her. She loves "petting" him and has learnt to behave nicely around him already.

If you want a kitten btw let me know cos our kitten needs a home (rescue kitten)

I'd get a young cat (or pair) instead. Rescue centres always have far more cats than kittens, they are only kittenish for such a short time (and it is quite hard work). When they are a little older you don't have to worry so much about house training, and if you get one that has lived with children before they know to go away rather than scratch children who are being a little too loving.

my 2 are 2.5 and almost 4 and we've had cats they're whole lives... up to 7 at a time!

they're fine as long as you're vigilant at all times.

we have a 6 month old who lets the kids cuddle and hug him and comes up every night to say goodnight to them, he's so used to them he doesn't get phased at all no matter how hyper they get.... although i do try and stop them lifting him as they're too little to do it without it being uncomfortable for him.

i'd never leave them alone with him either for fear of what they might get up to! i think being around kids since he was a tiny kitten has helped though as i've had plenty of other cats who weren't as tolerant as they weren't used to kids... our tomcat was never keen on being rubbed by them and my parents cat detests kids and always has!
