I'm looking at helpucover and direct line at the moment.

I want a policy that covers lifetime too.

Any other good options out there ?

We go with petplan because unlike most others, they will still treat a dog for a condition that it had in the previous year.

So for us, Alex has skin allergies, which needed about £1000 of treatment. In lots of other policies, skin allergies would be excluded when we renewed as a 'pre-existing' condition.

Petplan say that if your dog didn't have the condition prior to joining their scheme, they will cover it for life as long as your policy doesn't lapse.

m&s premium cover will do lifetime conditions. Costs me £14 a month for my dog.

Would recommend Pet Plan. My sister is a vet and she says they are the best at paying out and honouring the contract. Some of the cheaper ones don't work out cheaper in reality.

Pet Plan our dog has just had an operation due to ligament damage on her back left leg costing £3500 and she's likely to need the other side doing next year. Any other company wouldn't let us carry on with the insurance after a year but she's covered for life so we're really lucky. Apparently it's a common problem with dogs and the operation has a 92% fantastic recovery rate without the pet insurence we'd have never been able to pay for it. Also pet plan are more popular so most vets are set up to get paid directly from them, small companies they sometimes refuse and make you pay them and then you claim from the insurance. I'm so glad we paid the extra and went with pet plan

My best friend a vet and highly recommends Pet Plan. Talked us into getting it and it has saved us about 2500 pounds so far! They dont exclude conditions etc as others have said, and we just fill out a form at the vets and they send it all off and a cheque arrives about two weeks later. Brilliant.
