Was walking my dog. She was on her leed. Walked past the local pub where a man was unloading some things from the boot of his car. The pub door was wide open. This staffy came flying towards my dog snarling and really crazed looking. My dog barked but the other dog went for her. It was going for her throat and snarling like a wild dog. I pushed it off and held my dog around the throat to protect her as it was going to try biting her again. I kept pushing it off her. The dogs owner came accross to where this was taking place and tried to grab his dog. He couldn't. It went for my girl again and I shouted at it and pushed it again. The man threw himself onto his dog to restran it and asked if mine was ok. I told him I would let him know as I just wanted to take my dog home and away from his. I cried all the way home.
She is fine, there is a small lump on her throat, but nothing serious. I phoned DH to tell him, he said I should call the police, so I did. They will do nothing about a dog attack unless a person was hurt.
I called the man at the pub and said I was glad I didn't have a child in a buggy with me, as God knows what would have happened. He said he was sorry, but he has been irresponsible by leaving the door open with his dangerous dog inside. He just wanted to argue with me on the phone, said my dog was aggressive (she was on a leed) and he said that I have probably had similar "accidents" with my own dog escaping. (I haven't).
I am glad my dog is ok, but it has really upset me.

Corolla's general outlook on life is that everyone, dogs included are already her friends. She is always optimistic and keen to greet strangers. Her problem is that she is a big girl and her twitching/leeping around in eagerness to see everybody overwhelms most people/dogs. She wouldn't hurt a fly, though she may kiss it! Today, though, that wasn't the case as it all happenned too fast.I did wonder whether her colour spooked other dogs. Is that silly?

wannabe
staffies are not nasty dogs! sadly though a lot of them are brought as trophy dogs and not trained properly.but they for some mad reason don't like boxer(neither of my 2 did)
OP hope your dog is ok

WANNABE - Sorry but its things like that that are leaving staffie dogs in pounds being put down when they have done nothing but be born!!

The dog itself sounds as though it has serious aggression problems and the man should be punished. I think in this case as well that maybe the dog should be put down if it is that aggressive you are completely in the right and dont worry about. Get your dog checked though.

There is a saying in rescues punish the deed not the breed.

Hee hee 2advent - I have a staff x boxer. Boy, he must be having some issues!!! Lol.

Indeed, deed not breed.

I really feel for you, it's scary when something like this happens. We had something similar happen, two cairn's from next door ripped our fence down and attacked our boxer dog. It took the female boxer, my dad and ex to get them off. Poor thing missed being crippled by milimeters - they scratched the sheath on his tendon, if they'd pierced it he would have lost the use. He was in so much pain he had to be muzzled and pinned to the floor by dad and my ex for treatment as he kept trying to bite the vet and it was mutual love between the vets there and our dog. Police said they couldn't do anything as it was in the garden, couldn't even do anything about the damage to the fence. People think boxers are mean looking dogs but they're perpetual puppies!

I would call the warden if it was me, what if it had been a child instead of another dog?

I hope you're feeeling a bit better this evening.

Aren't they just! We lost the male (if you saw the very sad programme on the KC, he was everything they said of Boxers ) and we gave the female to the parents of someone Mum works with as she would have been on her own a lot otherwise. The friends mum is a childminder and the dog is mad over kids. Mum dogsits when they go on holiday and she lets Tink and my brothers kids pull her around and all sorts. My dad said to Tink one day (in jest) "can I smack your bum?" and he was never allowed near her again! I wouldn't want to cross a boxer, as daft as they are!

WannaBe Staffies are not nasty dogs but like all breeds some can be. My staffy was attacked by a Shuitzu, does that make that breed nasty dogs? My friends Shuitzu has also bitten me, Does that mean they are all nasty dogs?

Please dont be so silly as to generalise!
