What is the best and cheapest way to get rid of fleas?

best way? frontline!
cheapest? bowl of water, fine comb and a sedated cat plus lots of tissues to squish the fleas on.

You can also buy some spray - one kind to spray the cat (which they hate, so be prepared for an angry cat and lots of swishing claws!) and some spray for the carpet/furniture.

if you put a drop of white vinegar in his/her drinking water, ( or food if it doesnt drink the water) everyday, it prevents the flea eggs from attatching to the skin or coat. it wont get rid of your current infestation, that needs to be treated but it will prevent further visitors. HTH

How much is frontline?

Can you get flea shampoo for cats like you can dogs?

I'll try the vinegar thanks.

We had a cat infect our house and we bought one of these although we got it for cheaper than this. It picked up a fair few but the only thing that worked better than any of the powders etc was by steam cleaning the house with just a hand held cleaner and hoovering them up afterwards. It took a day to do it but we've not had any back since.

I went and got some flea shampoo at DPs request, some spot on for her neck and some house spray. DP is going to wash her in the sink later (I will watch and laugh when she scratches him to bits)put on the drops and then we will spray the stairs. She doesn't go in the bedrooms only on the stairs and we have no carpet and leather sofas downstairs, do I need to do the bedrooms anyway?

there's also a six monthly injection, called program, that cats can have (it's available in tablet form for dogs, once a month) which breaks the reproductive cycle of fleas - used in conjunction with frontline or similar that pretty much has us covered!
