Am collecting pup on saturday. DD has had a name picked out for years but i'm a bit embarrased to tell the lady what it is so she can register him. i know kennel na,mes are all a bit daft but does it matter if it is particularly daft?
also is the registered name supposed to folllow what his parents are called?
have only ever had mutts before notpedigree dogs so this is all a bit new.
perhaps this should be in baby names section but i hid that years ago.

usually the breeder registers the pup with a pedigree name, and you call it whatever you like when you get it home!!

The pedigree name consists of the breeders pre-fix (a name all that breeders pups have, tells people where it came from), and then they often name a group of puppies on a theme- eg my old boy is one of 8 named after places in Canada. We call it his Sunday name, and would never dream of calling him his full title- we call him Murphy!

Yes my breeder let me choose which kennel name but she'd already registered them. His kennel name is Foxdown magnus - foxdown is where he was bred and magnus is his name, but we've always called him rhubarb. I think only people who breed and show use the kennel name anyway.
