Hi,

we have a rescue cat who is barking, literally.... (she can't meow, growls and makes an odd barking sound instead )
We have a litter tray but she poos around it rather than in it. The corner with the litter tray is minging, i bleach the area once a week and the tray is kept clean but she still perches on the edge of the tray and poos on the floor. She has started to wee this way now as well.

I can't handle this anymore, the house reeks, i am fed up of cleaning poo off the floor and wiping up pools of wee.

We haven't got a cat flap at the moment as we our back doors are a bit odd, but i will get one put in if you all think it would help. Seriously i am at my wits end.

Sorry, should add that a covered tray is not an option. She had one of those and refused to go in it at all.

We gradually move the tray outside and then on day just got rid of it.

You put the tray outside the door, then gradually move it further and further away then one day, when she's doing all her business outside, take it away altogether.

BUT you can't really do this without a catflap as they do need to come and go as and when.

My cat doesn't like to go out in the rain. The other day she weed in my clean laundry basket because it was raining.

Ladies you are wonderful! I thought there was no hope.

The only worry i have is that she is mostly indoors at the moment. I have a feeling she will have a bit of an issue with the cold weather..... sigh. Do you think i should wait till it's a bit warmer to train her?

So you got a cat but aren't prepared to clean up after it instead you want it going outside to poo where it'll get on other peoples nerves and become their mess to clean up. Can you not buy a high back cat litter tray where she'll poo inside it instead? Much better for you and your neighbours.

Try putting a little fresh earth in the litter tray and change it for some more earth each time the litter tray is used. Cat will associate with earth smell.
