just wondering how many people remain persuaded by the pack theory (alpha/dominance model) of dog behaviour - have seen it mentioned and countered on here but is it still a popular view despite recent research?

I read that pdf which Makka kindly put on the other thread and I can't honestly see how anyone can still hold to pack theory after reading that...

I was put off when I found out that konrad lorenz had been a nazi, but that is ridiculous of me because what austrian/german scientist in those days wouldn't have been? but it sort of tainted the whole social hierarchy thing for me, even tho was very fond of lorenz and his ducks up until then

bit about lorenz here

Was he the imprinting chap then?

bella29 · 29/11/2008 15:50

No ,wait, wasn't the imprinitng guy Swedish?

bella29 · 29/11/2008 15:50

It's annoying me now -and I'm talking to myself. Will go & look it up.

bella29 · 29/11/2008 15:52

Back now - yes it was him all along.

If he put forward pack theory doesn't that contradict his won theory of imprinting?
