what age to neuter pup

i have a 16 week old hound and i do want him neutered, does anyone know what age he should be before it is done?

It depends what your local vet recommends these days. Some are neutering earlier than others. I would think the majority will still be sticking to the standard 6 months or older, but more practices are doing earlier neutering now. We currently offer neutering from 4 months old where I am.

Breaghs mum, if your doggy is a family pet it is more advisable from a behaviour point of view to wait until he is 12-18 mths old.

We neutered ours at 12mths, I was told to wait until 12mths as it allows their joints to form better before neutering, I have read that in some cases early neutering can lead to weaker joints.

I was told to neuter my dog after he reached sexual maturity - I think it was something to do with agression if done before. This was 15 years ago so advice may have changed now.
