My Lovely dogs last night with us

Well my lovely, gentle, faithfull Staffy is going to the vets tomorrow and probably won't be coming home He has cancer of Lymph nodes [lymphoma] and has had it for about 6 weeks. He's on chemotherapy and steroids that have given him a new lease of life and kept him pain free BUT tonight he had a seizure [his 1st] I rang up the PDSA who said bring him in tomorrow at 9am or ring if he gets worse
today he has fallen over a few times too. The vets then said the cancer could have gone to his brain . I know many MNs don't like staffs for different reasons but he really has been a fantastic boy and has followed me around for 15 years-always at my side. He also comes up to my disabled daughters bedroom every morning to get her up and last thing at night for bed, she's 19 so can hardly remember when he has'nt been there He's really going to be a huge loss to everyone including my cat he sleeps with and our other staffy.
Don't spos anyone is still up but it helps to talk about it and know I'm making the right decision to let him sleep in peace tomorrow. x

For fear of sounding....
this is the right thing to do,letting him go..he will pick a time to go into the next world with, probebly on a walk with you when times were great and he was,as you were, happpy safe and loved..
I also lost my best boy this year..
just wanted to give you my sympathy and kindest thoughts as I know this is going to be hard for you all..this will be the last thing you can do for him,do it with him, hold him,and kiss him lots....

I'm so sorry, Salsmum. I hope it goes as smoothly as possible and at least you have the comfort of knowing he won't suffer.

Staffies are very misunderstood dogs - as is so often the case, it's bad owners and not bad dogs that are the problem The poor dog then has to carry that reputation with them.

Sending you all my very best xxx

Our staffy X sends a gentle woof and nose nugde.

DustyTv · 12/11/2008 07:57

, brought tears to my eyes.

My brother has a staffy and he is the most dopey, loving, softie I have ever had the pleasure to meet.

My 2 dogs (X breeds) aregetting old now and both have epilepsy and I dread with all my heart the day that I have to let them go.

Hope you are well salsmum and DD.

Nbg · 12/11/2008 08:00

Oh I do hope he's ok

We have 2 dogs. They both drive me round the bend but I don't know what I would do without them.

Marne · 12/11/2008 08:17

Poor you and poor staffy. We have a staffy, she is so loving and gentle, i honistly couldn't say one bad thing about them. Dd2 climbs all over her and she doesn't flinch.

I will be thinking of you today

salsmum · 12/11/2008 11:50

R.I.P. Dexy. At 10am today your kind, gentle heart beated for the last time you were such a strong dog and nothing worried or scared you. Kiera the cat will miss her snoring bed mate and Bella your white staffy girlfriend will miss having you lay your heavy, sleeping head leaning on her back as you snuggle up at night by the fire. you lay on our bed last night which is normally a no no and you lay so still all night. For the first time ever when you went to the vets today you did'nt make a sound and I sat silently praying that the vet would not call us to your final journey, you stood facing the wall with your head bowed. I think you really knew that this was your time to go, I asked the vet for a towel so you could gently lie down because I knew you always liked your comfort. In the blink of an eye the angels called you and you were gone . Dad cried all the way home when he saw your lead and harness and could barely drive, I cried too. I'll miss my little shadow who was constantly by my side.
There will be an empty space now by my side and in my heart. We'll all miss you boy sleep soundly till your by my side once more. XXXXX

RIP Dexy.

I'm so sorry. I had to do the same for my 14 year old cat (kidney failure) who I miss every day.

I hope, in some small way, this link can help rainbow bridge

I've opted to have my boy [Dexy] cremated. He's being picked up from the vets today, cremated and delivered back to me in week/10 days Royal Mail Special delivery It'll be lovely to have him back home with us and his ashes will be scattered by the shed where he loved to lie in the sun x

Sorry to hear of your loss, pleased for you to have 15 years of loyal companionship from him though.

It's so hard to take them on that final journey, but it was good he had you by his side hon. Also glad you have other waggy tails around you to put a smile on your face in his absence.
