am considering getting a pup but do they make good family pets?

I would be careful of going to a breeder who is breeding white German shepherds. They are not accepted in the show ring so it is possible that she is only breeding for colour and not health. Of course this may not be the case but still.

For the poster that is taking the puppy back to the breeder, a dog really isn't much work at all, are you sure you really must take him back? It's awfully traumatic for a dog to be switching around so early in life. All he really needs is company, some obedience training and socializing with other dogs. When he is older they still only need an hour a day walk. At the moment you being at home all the time is very good as to a dog, the main thing is having his owner around for company.
