What an evening!

We found a little stray puppy wandering around in our street!

she was really terrified and shaking, managed to lure her into safety in our garden and gave it some water and puppy food (we have a pup of our own) Checked all the neighbours and on next street but she didn't belong to anyone.

She ended up cowering in our puppy's kennel in our garden. I had to sit with her because all the fireworks going off were scaring her. When DP came out she froze with fear at the sight of him

Phoned RSPCA who were rubbish TBH. All they did was give us numbers for dog wardens who were only there mon-fri.

Phoned Dogs home but they wouldn't take her even though I said I would take her there. But they did give us the number for out of hours dog warden.

Warden has just collected her, actually felt sad for this poor little dog! Almost wanted to keep her. Warden said hopefully she is chipped and they can reunite her with owner.

Do they put them down if they don't find the owner?

I don't know what they do with them where you are, but here in Lincolnshire there is a big kennel out in the sticks where they put them. If they don't get owners within a set time, then I think they must be put down. It is very sad.

Did you leave your number with the person who took her? Perhaps they will get back to you if no-one claims her.

Ohhh

How sad

I'm afraid I'd have been unable to resist keeping her!! Which is of course stupid and romantic of me. I can't afford to keep a dog really.

i just have a thing for lost pets. We found a stray hamster once and kept that.

Unfortunately I think they often do have to put them down. We found a stray once and the dog warden saig that if they are not claimed within a certain time they are put down if there are no places in the local rescue centre, which there often aren't. We phoned before the time was up to check if the one we found had been reclaimed as we would have tried to give him a home even though we had 2 dogs already. but luckily he had been claimed.

You feel a reponsibility don't you when you've found them. Hopefully as it is a puppy there is more chance of a home being found if she is not claimed. Do you know anyone who might take her ? I'd go and get her myself as I am a total softy where dogs are concerned but we have our hands full with the three we currently have.

I'd have her if I was anywhere near you! But I'm not

You could ask the dog warden what happens to them. I worked as a Dog Warden for a while in Somerset and all unclaimed stray dogs went to the local rescue centre, where no healthy dogs were ever put down, so it might be fine, puppys are usually much easier to rehome than older dogs too.

just saw this...i found a dog on the baech over seven years ago. we had to put her down last week..i am so,so,sad. we found her on a tuesday, so we called her ruby after the rolling stones song. we already had an uncontrollable pure bred pup at the time - ruby soon put her in her place and became top dog!

we called the vet, the police, the dog warden who told us at the time a lot of farmers were abandoning their dogs due to the foot and mouth outbreak. all i can say was that if we didn't take her, she would have been destroyed in a week if un-claimed.

she was such a wonderful, clever, loving girl, i miss her so much.

dogs are pack animals and need friends - just like us. if you can keep her do.

also, she may have escaped due to the fireworks etc, so be sure and check with neighbours tomorrow. good luck!

Have doubled checked with neighbours today but no luck.

I'm going to call teh warden in awhile to find out if anyone has claimed her
