Guinea Pigs/Rabbits

We had two GP in one cage and a rabbit in another (they were in together - but they fought)

The week after Christmas the rabbit died.
This morning one gp died.

So do we stay with 1 GP (dh's choice - he cleans them out)
Or get a new GP
Or get a rabbit and put them together again?

The GP is a boy - so I need a boy GP...but if we go rabbit do I get boy or girl?

It might not be good to introduce a new male gigglepig in with the established one. I did it one time, shredded ears and lots of fighting ensued until I split them up. I've not had rabbits before, a friend kept a rabbit and gp together for years very successfully.

guinea pigs are social animals & shouldn't really be kept alone. They can be castrated, so you could get a girl.

We had a gp & rabbit together. Rabbit came into season & killed the gp.

So maybe a visit to the vet for Jake (Milo was 2nd GP, Max was the rabbit).

Dont get a rabbit they are not supposed to be kept together. as they have stronger legs and if they kick out at GP could do lots of damage. don't get a male GP as they will fight best getting a female but get the male nuetered (sp?) and they should be fine. My two males that were together, one kept mounting the other so got them both done and now they fine but they have been together since they were babies. HTH

If you intoduce a young male they should be fine!.
My GP had 4 babies yesterday so if you live in west yorkshire feel free to have one!!!!.

all advice seems to say don't get another male to put in with an older one.only if they together from early age as they normally will end up fighting.

my friend had two GP's one died and she was left with a female. She got another which was a male and she had it 'done' and they are now in together happily.

I've now been told to get a baby girl rabbit....what do you all think??

Will I get baby guineaits or rab pigs??

put gp's with gp's and rabbits with rabbits. there you go they are different animals. if you all this confused just stick with the one gp and give him lots of love.

Reviving this thread because we have recently acquired a very young (7 weeks) male rabbit. I'm told he's already been introduced to vegetables but everything I've read suggesting he shouldn't have them until 12 weeks. Also I know I musn't change his diet too quickly so we bought the commercial feed he had in the pet shop and hay - but he much prefers grass. Is it safe to let him eat as much grass as he wants? I was thinking of a small piece of carrot once a week until he's 12 weeks.

He's booked for her first myxomatosis injection next week but does everyone do it yearly and do you have the viral one yearly too? We've in a built up area where I have not seen any wild rabbits or foxes although we do have squirrels. He's an outdoor rabbit with a large hutch and a fixed enclosure. He will be getting a moveable run sometime but can I let him have fresh lawn clippings (no chemicals used for over a year) until then?

have just found something saying he shouldn't have grass because its too short? Doesn't seem to make much sense, surely that's what wild rabbits eat?

that should be grass clippings, not that our lawn is that short before its cut

He should eat grass (while it's growing) pulling it with his teeth (iyswim)

he's being allowed a gradually increasing amount of grass from his enclosure, no sign of problems so far. Thanks for replying Katiemac.
