Yesterday we added a hamster to our for ever growing animal kingdom! She is very alert and appears in really good condition, but she squaks!

She squaks most of the time it appears this morning, she sound quite bird like. Is this normal for a hamster? What does that mean? if anything.

Thanks.

In my experience they only make a little sqeak if they are really distressed. Never heard one like a bird!!! Are you sure it's a hamster?!

That's what i thought! I have to say if someone had described her behaviour etc to me i would ask th e same question about it actually being a hamster, but it definately is, just a rather strange one, (atleast it will will right in here!)

when you go in tothe room she is in she comes running over to you, and then sqwaks at you! she seems really socialabe, already taking treats from our hands, see what i mean about her not being typical.

Crikey! I think I did read somewhere that if they get really socialised they will squeak for attention, titbits, etc., so it sounds like you've got one of those! She must be great fun. Where did you get her from?

We got her from a local pet shop, so thats why i am more surprised about her behaviour, although this particular shop is known for handling the animals alot. You quite go in over the weekends and the staff will have any one of the animals out, they have even served on the till with the rats on thier shoulders. The staff are vrey knowledgeable about the animals.

She is mesmarising to watch, because she is soo busy!

She sounds really lovely - enjoy

Oh yes, our hamster squeaks when she wants attention . Was a bit worried when she first started but are used to it now and find it quite endearing - just get her out and give her a fuss and she is fine. She sometimes squeaks if you put her back and she wasn't quite ready to go as well!

baby hammies squak when they are scared or lonely - as they miss their siblings

how young is she?

uous are very sociable and take treats from hands, run to cage door and gnaw on door till you open it and let them out to play

can be a pain at time - very noisey - have been known to out in kitchen and shut the door

i LOVE hammies - shame they die after 2/3 years

have 7 graves in our garden

My very first hamster unexpectedly gave birth to 12 babies (she was pregnant when I bought her) and they all squeaked like mad, even when they were all together, but none of my adult ones have ever squeaked (or squawked)

Fab little pets though.
