he was out his cage in the garden yesterday and seemed fine, he did not run about but sunbathed under some garden toys like he usually does. when i went to put him in his hutch last night he jumped out my arms but seemed fine so i put him away for the night.

this morning he has done nothing but lie in the same bit of his hutch, i opened the door to let him out and when i went back to check on him he was hanging out the door, i pushed his bum out for him but now he is lying on the slabs.

the few times he has went to move he looked lopsided.

he has also not eaten or drank a lot for a few days now.

we came back from holiday last week and he had been left with friends, is there any chance he could be sulking? or does it sound more serious. i have checked him over but cant see anything physically wrong with him. all his paws etc look fine.

he is not even a year old yet.

Oh sorry to hear about your rabbit. My old rabbit died a couple of years ago and I was very sad I took her body to the vets to be cremated as I had cats and a dog that may have dug her up. It only costs a few pounds.

You can bury departed beloved bunny in the garden but by aware that without a large rock etc above, garden visitors may be tempted to make a visitation.

have cancelled the vet.

just spoke to dh and he thinks that by tomorrow night maggotts will be crawling over him [shudder]

i thought i was being brave lifting the box into the outhouse but now he wants me to go and out the box into a bin bag and i really dont think i can do it.

Umm, might i suggest the fridge or freezer as a interim resting place for darling rabbit KerryK?

Just think funeral home

MatNanPlus · 14/08/2008 17:43

KerryK ask kindly neighbour to help on which plan you choose.

kerryk · 14/08/2008 18:17

neighbour is away out just now and my other neighbours are prats. really dont want to ask them and have them think that i owe them a favour

would it really be so bad to leave him in the box for one night, it is not hot here.

shock of what happened has worn of and i think i will get really upset if i see him again, not good when i am on my own with dd's.

How is your dd today kerry?

kerryk · 15/08/2008 15:24

still tearfull on and off. had to let her sleep with me last night. not helping matters that the rabbit is still in the shed but dh is not home till half eight tonight.

i am taking the dd's out to friends and dh is going to dispose of the body. i wanted him burried in the garden but we do get foxes and as my dad pointed out what kind of state would she be in if something managed to dig him up.

so we will pretend he has been burried but dh says he will take the body away.

grandparents want to take her and buy her a new one this weekend but i think it will be better to leave it a few weeks.

he was such a lovely little thing, cant see us getting another as laid back as he was

well our new one arrived last night, i wanted to wait a while but it was not the same without him

my parents went and bought one and surprised dd with it when she came out school, he is a gorgeous little bundle of fluff and bone.

our last rabbit was a gorgeous dutch, stunning looking and the new one is a little runt, but we have all fallen in love with him already

Had you had him vaccinated against VHD (Viral Haemmorhagic Disease)? That can kill bunnies very quickly with few or no obvious symptoms. Would advise having the new rabbit vaccinated against that and myxi.
I'm sorry for you and DD's loss.

yes we checked his little book and he was all up to date with everything.

thats what makes it so sad, we will never know what happened to him which makes it so much worse. i really dont think there was anything more we could have done though. he was a very spoilt little chap
