House cats - do you exercise them ?

Sorry to sound a bit nutty but... we are moving to a big flat in Edinburgh from a house with a garden with our two cats. They are allowed to roam free here but when we move clearly they will become house cats. I feel bad but it is only for a year. We have no garden but outside the flat is a large communal garden. A couple of people have suggested I get cat leads and take them out to the gardens every day. Is this madness or a good idea ?

it can be done. i used to use a lead when i took cats to vets. you have to make sure it fits properly though.
