Can my kitten tell I'm pregnant?

My 14 week old kitten is costantly trying to suck me! She doesn't do it to anyone else just me.

Is it possible she can sense the baby?

No you will have to tell her

edam · 07/07/2008 22:23

Yup, very possibly. And I'm sure there are plausible explanations - maybe they can sense the hormones?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/07/2008 22:24

my cat kept trying to push my bump back in - I'm sure she was protesting about the lack of space on my lap.

Desiderata · 07/07/2008 22:25

Yes, I think I've read this about animals. Their sense of smell is acute, don't forget. A dog, for instance, has a sense of smell 10,000 times better than ours ... which is why they always wedge their snouts up your fanny when it's the time of the month

So yes, I'm sure she knows!

My female cat sat on me alot when I was pregnant.

ROLF lillypie!

the sucking is a sign that she was taken from the mother too soon. i had a cat that did it every time he cuddled me his whole short life, he ran under a car at 1.

all my other cats have done it at some point too, some more than others

that said they can tell you're preg.... our tomcat is my no.1 preg test, he only climbs onto me for a cuddle when i'm up the duff and he does it from only a few weeks after i conceive and doesn't give up even when the baby is kicking him from side to side pgrin]

my parents had the most evil cat on the planet who wouldn't let anyone but my dad touch her, yet for the 9 months my mom was preg she cuddled her constantly, then went back to attacking her after she had me

I have 2 rescue cats who were taken form their mother very young (we were told they would only ever grow to 75% of their potential size) The boy cat dribbles and sucks and dribbles on us all the time. Gross really.

noddyholder · 07/07/2008 22:42

I had a kitten who did that.Unfortunately he grew into a huge fat cat and still does it when he's stressed

PinkTulips · 07/07/2008 22:42

but adorable..... my cat used to close his eyes and knead with his paws like a little kitten when he did it

LynetteScavo · 07/07/2008 22:47

sorry, my cat my look cute when he does it, but there is nothing adorable about cat saliver on your face first thing in the morning!

hf128219 · 07/07/2008 22:49

Yep, cats and kittens can smell a pregnant woman - even before we know ourselves!

PinkTulips · 07/07/2008 23:01

pmsl, my fella only did it on cloth so my top got a bit soggy but no facial saliva to deal with thankfully

purpleflower · 07/07/2008 23:17

Thank you all for your responses. I was just curious as its only me she does it on and mainly aims for my bump.

I don't think she was taken from her mum to early as we only got her last week so she was 13 weeks. Hopefully she will stop when the baby is here as she really digs her claws in.

if you hold her paws up a bit she'll knead thin air instead. bit akward but saves you looking like you've got some sort of diesese after she's done

edam · 08/07/2008 09:16

I've been told kneading is what they do to their mothers to encourage let-down. But even if your tummy is covered in fur, it has got to hurt. Kitten claws are bloody sharp! Feel v. sorry for queens.
