I know it probably would be? but surely there must be some cat owners who work? I would love a pet. I will be a full time student come sept so will dp until jan. we will be home in the evening, would a cat be ok on their own during the day? it wouldnt be every day probably 4 days a week.

A cat would be fine, a dog not so, a cat yes.
Could you get a cat flap so they can come in and out?
Leave them the run of the house?

MaryAnnSingleton · 04/07/2008 16:48

would be fine - cats very independent in my experience though my last cat used to come to meet me up the road

VictorianSqualor · 04/07/2008 16:48

Oh also, leave a decent amount of water, and some dry cat food (meat goes rank during the day, so just use it when you're around and leave biscuits as a snack)

magnetic cat flap a good idea so it can come and go and keeps neighbouring cats out

WE got our cats when they were kittens, and I wasn't working. They've been alone all cay sine they were a few moths old. Cat's are very self sufficiant, and are happy to come and go through cat flap day and night. (Although my next door neighbour, who was a vet, locked his cats out at night, but I wouldn't)

We have a cat and work - it's fine. They sleep most of the day anyway!

Lovesdogsandcats · 04/07/2008 18:19

Yes, they will be fine during the day...I say THEY because you should get two! Companionship for each other, and if you go to a rescue centre quite often they like them to go in pairs, if it is 2 homeless cats that came in together. If you could get a couple of younger ones aged 2, 3, 4 whatever that would be perfect.

we both work ft and have a cat and a dog, cat comes and goes at it pleases, but mostly sleeps all day

ivykaty44 · 04/07/2008 18:23

We have a cat at work, the owners work and the cat comes to see us all we call him sid and he has worked out how to operate the automatic door and comes in for some attention. Sometimes he has a bad hair day and wiggles his tail and hisses and spits.

So do be aware that if you get a cat and are out all day he may wander of and then come back in the eve - you never are really the owner of a cat but a houser

oh great I thought everybody would say no! can you tell I've never had a cat before I've always had dogs and know how they need human contact so that's why I'm not in the position to get one.
I'm moving into a flat soon and there isn't a garden so no cat flap? would it be ok in the flat for the day or would it need to come and go?
