Probably a stupid question, but, those of you whose dogs had pins put in their limbs

How do they walk? Our puppy has had pins put in, and apprently has a metal frame on the outside of the leg to hold them in place. The vets has said that when we pick him up, he won't can go for walks - which I thought was obvious, but how do they manage to get outside for their toilet?

our cat had pins in when he was shot and the bullet shattered his femar to pieces. He was only allow in a cage, and has a litter tray. I guess you will have to put him in a small room with newspaper down

He has a crate which he sleeps in at night, but DH is worried that the frame on his leg will catch in the metal on the crate!
The crate is in a small room next tot eh front door, and we are thinking of letting him sleep in teh room, but he's a very excitable 18 week old puppy, who jumps around like a loon when we get home, and again, if he is the small room, even with the stairgate he may try and jump.
So your cat couldn't walk at all!

Our dog had metal plates put in his leg and was on lead exercise only for 3 months that included going to the loo.

He wasn't allowed out of the cage for about 2 months, then he was only allowed in a room for a few weeks, then outside He has slight weakness with that leg now, but he does ok. What happened to your dog?

It was a freak accident. We had gone out the door, he saw my neighbour who called him. over he went, and as usual jumped up, now I don't know if the lead got stuck on her wall, or just locked, but he sort of got pulled over onto his right side, then started yelping terribly. he has broken all 4 metatarsil bones in his front paw. £2,500 its costing the insurance. Poor wee thing, he loves getting out and running around and jumping and playing and won't can do that for 4-6 weeks. We are going to mums in Dumfriesshire in about 3 weeks and were looking forward to getting him out and up teh hills near her. i feel awful becasue he was with me,a nd I keep wondering if I did something
