she has a tumour in her leg. If its 1 tumour then we coud amputate though how would that be in terms of qulaity of life/living with 2 small kids who woudn't understand? the alternative is pretty horible.....have to decide today....life is so crap sometimes....

I'm really sorry to hear about this. I don't have personal experience, but I do know that dogs with three legs manage very well indeed, with a brilliant quality of life.

I hope it all turns out well for you and her.

How old is he? What does the vet advise? Will she easily adapt do you/he/she think? I've seen plenty of happy three-legged dogs.

I'm sure she would cope just fine with 3 legs - is it a front or hind? (I think hind is a bit easier) She will balance with her tail! And I'm sure your kids will be fine - just keep them separated so she can rest when recuperating.

But does the vet think there is only one tumour?

Tough one - I feel for you.

I know a three-legged Lab; he had to lose one of his back legs after a car accident. He manages really well. When you first see him, you probably wouldn't even realise there was a problem til you looked at him from the back. Difficult decision, but I can assure quality of life would be fine.
